Here’s how far virtual reality is from becoming mainstream
Virtual Reality is the new reality as numerous digital accessories and gadgets are popping up to ensure that one’s experience with digital content can be as true to life as possible. Gear VR only supports select Samsung phones, such as the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, and S6, and leverages the Oculus VR store for content.
The Flickr app for Samsung’s Gear VR now lets users browse through its new collection of equirectangular “VR Photos”. Eventually, what we would look for would be 360° photo experiences, as seen through the lens of virtual reality apps and accessories. Choose one and you’ll “instantly be transported to another place and time” such as watching the Aurora Borealis at night from Finland, or seeing the Horseshoe Bend in Arizona. The site has launched a virtual reality Flickr app, called Flickr VR.
Flickr said that the app stands apart from others because it maintains the quality of uploaded images hence providing the best platform for 360-degree photos.
Samsung’s Gear VR was released to the public only recently and initial demand appears to be so high that online retailers quickly sold out of the inventory.
Flickr is diving into the world of virtual reality in order to provide you with a new photo experience. This will take 360-degree photos on the platform to a whole new level. There’s a Store at the Oculus Home where you can find the app and simply installing it will allow you to view the 360° to your heart’s or rather eye’s content.
The Flickr VR app sources the images directly from the user database although how the company will be moving forward and expanding its 360 photo sharing viewing service is a little unclear at the moment.
