Kyle Busch Races to Third Win of Year, Moves Closer to Chase
In a career marked alternately by brilliance and baffling poor performances, Kyle Busch has commuted between potential champ to also-ran for 10 years. He has 25/1 odds to win, but he finished third in this race previous year, so it is one of his stronger tracks. He has competed in eight races since returning from injuries sustained in the Xfinity Series season opener at Daytona in February. It’s an outlook the likes of Yogi Berra or the Philadelphia Flyers can understand. When the green flag waved, Edwards and Busch solidified themselves as the class of the field, with Edwards holding his lead but eventually turning it over to his teammate.
For all the doubters and skepticism by some who feel he shouldn’t be allowed to even have a chance after missing the early portion of the season, Busch is doing the right thing by winning races and silencing the critics.
What matters most is for us to go out there and perform at our best at the level that we know how to do.
“You know, I love dirt-track racing”. I didnt want to eat the poor guy, he said. His three wins are certainly enough to earn a Chase for the Sprint Cup championship berth.
“This is something I’m not sure we ever would have expected”, he said. Afterward, the smoldering, pouting Busch reappeared – his version of older brother Kurt Busch’s rants – and he refused to speak to the media. Ford’s Brad Keselowski then took top position following a restart 68 laps in, which was put out for debris on the track. He missed the second of the 2013 season after sustaining a broken leg in an accident racing a dirt Sprint auto.
On the other hand, the last Team Penske win was in March.
“It’s a very unusual dynamic, and certainly in sports we all love it because you can have great victories, you can have great defeats”, team owner Joe Gibbs said.
“I think I’ve got a few good ideas about that”. We have to go back and look at that, Stucker said. “The way he’s handled everything, disappointments, handled that really well, too”. Would NASCAR really let a driver with 3-4 win not make their playoff?
Most of the calls were not responded to as Busch continued his lead on the race with him driving past Harvick during the competition.
“Chicago caught us a little bit”.
“I guess both of us can take fault with that”.
The most significant incident of the day was a clash on pit road between Hendrick’s Jeff Gordon and Michael Waltrip Racing’s Clint Bowyer.
It’s strength not consistently in evidence until this season.
During the teleconference this week, Stewart declared he will be at the track next week as the speedway prepares to host the truck series Midsummer Classic, the only NASCAR series race held on dirt, the Post-Dispatch reported.
Three-time victor, the last in 2008; led 291 laps and won on similar flat layout at Richmond.
Busch, though, has not assured himself a position in the Chase just yet. “Had a really good vehicle during the race”. Then there’s the problem with getting adjusted to his feet, and those things, still continuing to get better.
Forget about the fact he still remains outside the top 30 of driver points, which is a requirement to make the Chase. Edwards has just three top 10s, an average finish of 19.8 and is just 17th in the points standings.
“I don’t have any fears”, Stevens said, “of being able to close that gap”. After being about 130 points out of 30th when he came back, he’s now only 58 points out.
