A Single Photo Exists of Lennon With His Killer

As the art world celebrates the life of former Beatles member John Lennon on the 35th anniversary of his death, we at The Gazette pulled photos of his visits to Montreal.

Mark David Chapman had been waiting for Lennon for most of the afternoon and evening on December 8.

Chapman pleaded guilty and is serving 20-years to life in prison. He has been denied parole eight times and remains behind bars.

“Neighbours said the 40-year-old British musician was walking to the building with his Japanese-born wife Yoko Ono at about 11pm local time when the gunman fired several shots at Lennon through the front gates”. It’s a murder that still resonates in Lennon’s adopted city and around the world.

Michael said: “Almost a year ago Kirk called me and said, ‘Michael I was looking at television, I saw one of my old movies and I felt so bad because I couldn’t remember the movie”.

“Record shops in Newcastle were expecting a big increase in sales of Lennon’s records _ both as a solo performer and with The Beatles”.

Lennon collapsed on the stairs of the building, apparently exclaiming “I’m shot” a couple of times before falling. “At Roosevelt Hospital, Dr. Lynn announced that Lennon was dead shortly after midnight”.

“He was just an awesome guy”, Steve Cropper says of Lennon, in Alan di Perna’s book Guitar Masters: Intimate Portraits.

John Lennon, one of the four Beatles, was shot and killed last night while entering the apartment building where he lived, the Dakota, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Police arrested a suspect, “described as a local screwball”, minutes after the shooting and charged him with Lennon’s murder.
