Donald Trump Postpones Trip to Israel Until ‘After I Become President’
Republican Donald Trump has scrapped a planned trip to Israel, saying he will reschedule “at a later date after I become President of the U.S”.
Twitter users in turn were quick to remind Trump about some of the most famous athletes in USA history, including Ali and Abdul-Jabbar, and they even posted photos of the presidential candidate posing with Ali.
“There’s clearly a large segment of the Republican electoral base that responds very positively to the things Trump has been saying”, Abramowitz said.
Ali’s stinging intervention comes as the public backlash against Trump strengthens; a petition calling for the Republican frontrunner to be banned from Britain for “hate speech” attracted over 400,000 signatures in just two days.
In the new national survey, three-quarters of Republicans said Trump would have a chance of winning the general election if nominated, significantly more than said so of any other GOP candidate.
After rocketing to the front of the Republican pack in the race for president, Trump has stayed there for months with a brash approach that has captivated a healthy slice of the GOP electorate. “So I would say lots of different reasons”, Trump said.
Trump, who is leading in many polls to be the Republican presidential nominee, has defended his remarks about Muslims, citing the attack in San Bernardino, California, which was carried out by an Illinois-born man and his Pakistan-born wife.
But Trump’s standing in opinion polls of Republican voters was unchanged in the data released on Friday, which covered responses from December 8-11.
On Wednesday, Trump claimed there were parts of London so radicalised that police officers feared for their lives, a remark rejected by Downing Street and the mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
He tweeted: “The United Kingdom is trying hard to disguise their massive Muslim problem”. Everybody is wise to what is happening. A DAMAC spokesman declined to comment on why Trump’s image was removed from a billboard outside the project site. He did take the opportunity to distance himself somewhat from Trump’s comment on Muslims.
But Mr Trump has remained defiant, telling the Fox News Channel that “people (are) coming into this country, (and) we have no idea who they are”.
