Palestinian killed after ramming car into group of Israelis
The bloodshed is the latest in nearly three months of near-daily Palestinian attacks on Israelis and other Israeli-Palestinian violence. Amnesty, citing unidentified witnesses, said as she raised her hands during a security test, howling at edge police that she did not have a knife, she was shot. The man was identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Health as Issa Hroub, 55, from the nearby village of Deir Samet.
Near Hebron, a large West Bank city where anti-Israel hostility is strong, a Palestinian motorist tried to ram troops who then shot him dead, the army spokesman’s office said. He was identified as Sami Maadi, 38.
According to IMEMC, the Israeli soldiers targeted medics, opened fire on a Red Crescent ambulance causing damage to its windshield, and searched an ambulance while transferring a wounded Palestinian to a hospital.
Speaking from the Gaza Strip, Ramy Abdu, the chairman of the Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, said that by using live fire on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Israelis continued their “policy of using something beyond excessive force” to kill Palestinians who pose no threat to soldiers.
Israel’s agriculture minister, Uri Ariel, said Friday during a radio interview that Palestinians should not be allowed to drive in and around Gush Etzion Junction south of Jerusalem, which saw many similar attacks in recent weeks.
Israeli troops thwarted two attacks in the West Bank on Friday, killing a Palestinian who tried to ram his auto into Israeli soldiers and wounding a second assailant who opened fire elsewhere in the territory, the military said. “The assailant, wounded, was picked up by a van and fled the scene”, it added.
A Palestinian gunman fired shots toward Israeli security forces at the Gilboa (Jamale) crossing between the northern West Bank and Israel on Friday.
A third Palestinian died in clashes with Israeli troops on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, according to Gaza health officials. Palestinians said a 22-year-old local man was fatally shot in the chest.
The army did not immediately respond to Tarawa’s account. Such raids in the West Bank city, which is home to the Palestinian Authority, are relatively rare.
One of its leaders, Mushir al-Masri, called for “resistance until the complete liberation of Palestine”.
