Get a free Google Cardboard headset (Star Wars edition)
With Google Cardboard, you can check out some fun virtual reality with the official Star Wars app or via Google’s Awaken the Force website. From transforming Gmail to turning its search engine into the iconic Star Wars text crawl, the tech giant is clearly just as excited for more Star Wars as we are.
In the run-up to the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Google is giving away a limited number of Star Wars-themed Cardboard headsets, and they’re 100 percent free, shipping included.
Haven’t heart about Cardboard? Assemble it in 3 easy steps to immerse yourself in engaging VR content.
Statesiders will be able to choose from four designs, including BB-8, Kylo Ren, R2-D2 and First Order Stormtrooper.
Once you order a Cardboard unit, you’ll get a message on the page saying “Limit reached”, so each account is only allowed one free Star Wars headset. It would be a good idea to call ahead to see if they’re still in stock and make sure to check out the new Verizon-exclusive Star Wars editions of the Droid Turbo 2 while you’re there. While it’s not “true VR” like what we see with Gear VR or eventually the Rift and Vive, you’ll enjoy the immersive experience you have. It only tracks the turning of your head where more advanced VR systems also know where your body is moving.
It’ll probably “sell” out quick, so hurry and grab one now before they’re gone.
