The first funeral was held Thursday for one of the San Bernardino shooting victims, 27-year-old Yvette Velasco.
Marquez has been interviewed multiple times during the investigation, and a senior law enforcement official said Friday that he has “come clean” with authorities by cooperating fully.
Speaking briefly to reporters outside her Riverside home, Armida Chacon said she has not had any contact with her son since Marquez’s friend Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people during a rampage at the Inland Regional Center.
Investigators have focused on trying to determine whether the 2014 marriage between Farook and Malik was genuine.
He added the FBI will continue a “methodical and factual” investigation.
He would not disclose what investigators were looking for in the lake, saying the search would last for days. He and Farook were friends for years and became family last year with a sister-in-law in common.

United States government sources told Reuters on Thursday that Malik tried in vain to contact multiple Islamic militant groups in the months before she and Farook staged their attack, but her overtures were ignored. Such transactions could be a violation of California law, the officials said.
The FBI raided Marquez’s home last week. Agents ultimately forced entry through the garage.
The woman came to the United States from Russian Federation on a J-1 visa in 2009, according to another law enforcement official. Walmart, where Marquez worked, has fired him.
Marquez, who has not been charged, checked himself into a mental health facility after the December 2 attack. “My world is upside-down”, she said.
One neighbor, who asked not to be named, said Marquez seemed like a nice young man. “He was a good guy”, the neighbor said. Neighbor Freddy Escamilla told CNN that Marquez would nod hello but say little else.
“He never really talked to anyone”, Escamilla said, adding that he was “really introverted”.
At one point, Marquez converted to Islam and was often seen attending sermons at a local mosque that Farook and his family also attended.
