Congress to repeat Bihar in Assam, says Rahul Gandhi
Gandhi, who arrived in Assam on a two-day visit on Friday, was speaking during a meeting with editors and senior journalists at the Brahmaputra Guest House.
“Rahul Gandhi on Narendra Modi: PM “…can only give speeches…like a balloon which only bounces”.
Rahul heaped praises on chief minister Tarun Gogoi and the party members for working hard.
Gogoi said that Rahul has come to the state to find the problem faced by the people of the state. The demonstration was part of the statewide protest against alleged recent high-handedness of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government on the BJP party.
Bhaben Sharma, president of the district BJP, said the people of Assam would reply to the Congress Government in the coming election for its anti-democratic character through ballots.
Referring to the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress leader said, “Modi went to Bihar and made promises about bringing development there… made empty promises”. Despite injustice meted out by the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre to Assam and its people, the State is progressing on the path of progress and prosperity.
Exhorting Congress leaders and workers to unitedly contest the upcoming Assembly polls, Rahul said, “If you work for uniting the farmers of Assam and emotionally connect with thepeople, then what happened in Bihar is about to happen in Assam”.
“Assam was plagued by murders and violence fifteen years back”. He also interacted with self-help groups and held a discussion on women empowerment.
Gogoi said that the slew of economic measures adopted by the State Government through fiscal discipline and management have enabled the State to compete with other developed ones. He said that the program was aimed at empowering Assamese women. He said that if the BJP is voted to power in the State, the party will take the State to what it was fifteen years ago.
