Digital projects shine amid Golden Globes nominations
Carol, the story of a married older woman who falls in love with a young shopgirl in the 1950s, will contend for best drama opposite Pioneer-era movie The Revenant, psychological thriller Room, Catholic Church abuse probe Spotlight and action thriller Mad Max: Fury Road.
A Globes nomination can give a show, film or actor not only a bump in audience, but an edge in Hollywood’s crowded awards season.
Just three years after digital platforms plunged into original content television for the first time, Netflix landed a leading eight nominations for its shows and actors, ahead of usually dominant premium cable channel HBO.

Ruffalo, however, was nominated for best actor in a comedy for his performance as a bipolar father in “Infinitely Polar Bear“.
Ricky Gervais will return as host for the Globes when it airs on NBC on January 10.
The Globes nominations were announced a day after the Screen Actors Guild award contenders.
Though some questionable category decisions left less humorous films competing for best comedy or musical, two of comedy’s top stars will crash the party: Melissa McCarthy and Schumer. In the best animated film category, the Charlie Kauffman-scripted, stop-motion drama “Anomalisa” slotted in alongside a quartet of more family-friendly releases: “Inside Out”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “The Peanuts Movie” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie”.
The best actress in a TV series- comedy contenders are Rachel Bloom, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gina Rodriguez, Lilly Tomlin, Grace & Frankie, besides Louis-Dreyfus. It has a total of seven nominations, down from 15 previous year.
