Trump hits back at ‘dopey’ Saudi billionaire
The Saudi royal is CEO of Kingdom Holding Company, which has stakes in groups like Citigroup and Twitter, and has an estimated net worth of $24.8 billion, according to Forbes.
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal called the controversial Republican frontrunner a “disgrace” to America and urged him to immediately leave the race.
“You are a disgrace not only to the GOP but to all America”, Alwaleed had tweeted to Trump, referring to the Republican Party. “@Alwaleed_Talal wants to control our US politicians with daddy’s money”. “Can’t do it when I get elected”.
The Twitter spat comes at the end of a week in which Trump said Muslims should be banned from entering the country.
Bin Talal’s tweet, which Trump was responding to, also encouraged the Republican front runner to drop out of the race for president.
The diversified firm’s interests include US-banking giant Citigroup.
Mr Trump triggered an global uproar when he made his comments in response to last week’s deadly shootings in California by two Muslims who authorities said were radicalised.
Trump’s comments about Muslims also earned the ire of another prominent businessman this week.
It is just the latest in a series of Twitter spats for Mr Trump, whose campaign uses outrage to generate headlines and keep the 69-year-old on television talk shows.
