Cyber Monday sales brought in $3 billion
Crowds seemed smaller on Black Friday this year and sales fell to $10.4 billion, down from $11.6 billion in 2014, according to preliminary figures from ShopperTrak.
Global leader in digital marketing and digital media solutions, Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE), reported the online holiday shopping frenzy has marked an all-time high this year for USA companies at $2.98 billion in sales, up 12 percent compared to last year.
The pace of online spending slowed on Cyber Monday after consumers started their Internet shopping earlier over the weekend, turning to their smartphones to pick up deals, according to International Business Machines Corp. Yet “Cyber Monday” has become engrained in the minds of enough shoppers and it endures as the top online spending day of the year.
“So many businesses fared better this year because they planned it out better”, said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at NPD Group, a retail industry research firm.
ComScore chairman, Gian Fulgoni, said: “Cyber Monday maintained its reputation as the most important online spending day of year, exceeding $3bn in total digital spending and once again becoming the heaviest online spending day of all-time”.
This contributed to a 16 percent rise in online sales to $3.07 billion.
The report showed that Amazon came out on top as the leading retailer for Cyber Monday traffic however retailers such Walmart and Target also had very strong showings. It is still too early to tell if this decrease is the beginning of a decline in physical bargain hunting to make way for the Internet age. There were plenty of deals to be had this Cyber Monday, so how did consumers respond? But the value of merchandise was higher for purchases made on desktops, with the average order hitting $128, followed by tablets at $124.14 and smartphone buys averaging $102.02 per order, according to IBM.
Shopper Diane Boral, from Oxnard, California, found toys, games and clothing at Kohls.com for 20 percent off on Cyber Monday.
The best-selling electronics on Cyber Monday are said to have included Samsung 4K TVs, Microsoft Xbox, Apple iPad Mini, Apple iPad Air 2, and Sony PS4.
Star Wars toys were among the items most frequently out of stock, Adobe said.
