Hodgson and Coleman relish England-Wales Euro 2016 derby
England made it to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 when Hodgson had been in charge for a matter of weeks, but the quality of the football was poor, and the World Cup in Brazil past year ended in disappointment with elimination at the group stage.
Roy Hodgson says England will approach the match in Lens full of respect for Chris Coleman’s Wales side, not least for Gareth Bale, with Russian Federation and Slovakia also drawn in Group B.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland have been drawn in the same group as world champions Germany, Ukraine and Poland.
Italy will not be relishing Group E much, which contains a top-ranked Belgian side – featuring Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany – Sweden, led by Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland must negotiate matches with Sweden on 13th June, Sweden on 17th June and Italy on 22nd June. It does not matter who you play.

“I thought I was going to enjoy the draw, I’m not sure I have done”. It couldn’t get tougher – these are games to look forward for the fans but it could not be tougher for us. “To play England, they are a fantastic team but we are a good team too”.
“For Martin to get this team qualified, he’s done a great job. There is no reason why we shouldn’t”, he said, speaking to the BBC. Roy has had two tournaments, he was very early for the first Euros and then he has had the World Cup, he has learned a lot and he has great worldwide experience.
While Germany coach Joachim Loew sounded confident that the world champions will top Group C, Poland has the firepower to spoil those plans. We know Poland well from the qualification. He also urged fans of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to travel to France, insisting that security would be a priority. Many things appear to be against us but what we’ve always shown is tremendous team spirit. They’re a very young team but a good team and will be the favourites in the group.
“I’ve not come across either Russian Federation or Slovakia in my global career so it’s two newcomers, but we respect them and it’s a question of doing plenty of research so we know enough about them as we think we do about Wales”.
