Kitson Is Closing All 17 Stores – Reminisce with These Photos!
James Wong, an official charged with restructuring the financially troubled chain, said Kitson is in discussions with other retailers in the hope it will find a way to preserve the Kitson brand.
Kitson was founded in 2000 by Fraser Ross with its first designer-studded Robertson Boulevard outlet.
Iconic Los Angeles-based lifestyle boutique Kitson announced Thursday it began closing its 17 locations throughout California, Oregon, and Nevada, as well as its online store.
The boutiques rose to fame after celebrities like the Kardashians, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan shopped there.
Kitson was a starting point for many big name lines, including Wildfox Couture. They started dealing with lowbrow merchandise, focusing on kitschy or flashy instead of quality, according to the LA Times. Store fixtures, furniture and equipment will also be available for sale. Instead they paid the celebrities to step in to their outlets for purchasing fancy installments and this led a situation to give away more money than what came in in terms of celeb shopping.
California Apparel News reported that Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc., owner 650 novelty gift shops, and Spirit Halloween Superstores, made an investment in Kitson to help it avoid a bankruptcy filing. In 2013, Kitson received a $15 million in financing from Salus Capital Partners of Boston to take care of debt and provide working capital.
Well, if Kitson products were out of reach for general mass earlier, now those are being sold at attractive discounts.
Kitson stores across the country are shutting their doors for good. Now everything in their stores is 30%-50% off.
