David James slams Arsenal for signing Petr Cech instead of Chelsea’s Asmir
The signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea is likely to mean that the Polish goalkeeper will find game-time harder to come by next season, and while Szczesny is thought to be willing to stay at the Emirates to fight for his position, a move to Ajax with the promise of regular first team football could tempt the 25-year-old.
And Matic is unhappy to see his rivals strengthened by the goalkeeper’s move to north London after over a decade at Stamford Bridge.
“I am looking for a defender to finish the balance in our squad and after that we are ready to answer to anything that can happen with our players”, said the Portuguese to his club’s official website.
I am not happy because of that. He is one of the best keepers.
“He had a good run into the end of the season with Aston Villa but I can’t understand how he’s a Liverpool style player, especially the way Brendan Rodgers likes to play”.
Cech was desperate to stay in the capital because his family are settled and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich rewarded the keeper for his loyal service by agreeing to the request.
“Great to be part of this group of guys and this team and they have all been really welcoming which I have enjoyed”. If we do the same again next season, this will be enough to be champions.
“Of course everyone is important for us and Asmir is going to be important”. We know what we can expect and we will be ready for everything.
“If he does then Arsenal still have one hell of a goalkeeper but Chelsea still get £11million for a 33-year-old with one year left on his deal. It is very demanding and I am loving the challenge and it is good to be a part of it”.
Begovic, who has been handed the number one shirt at Chelsea, has joined the club after making 172 appearances for Stoke over a five-year spell. “Just try not to win any trophies!”
