Reasons Why Alabama’s Derrick Henry Should Win The 2015 Heisman Trophy
Styles and trends come and go. A record that stood for 27 years (good luck to the voters trying determine which record breaking season was better…see Derrick Henry above). “I want the ball, I want to make plays, so it’s not a big deal to me”, Henry said. And if it takes a dynasty like USC’s just for a player on the West Coast to get recognized, man do I like Henry’s odds of taking home the trophy. “But this year is definitely more interesting”.
All three players have a case for the trophy.
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson meets the media at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square in advance of Saturday’s Heisman Trophy presentation. McCaffrey has 1,847 yards rushing.
Clemson’s quarterback Deshaun Watson finished third. The problem for Watson is that he plays in the ACC, and although Clemson is the top ranked team in the nation, many believe that Alabama is a stronger team. Many who have watched closest are on the McCaffrey bandwagon. “It’s very vague”, said, a national reporter for Yahoo Sports and the. The Heisman doesn’t define me. You heard me right, the only Quarterback in the NCAA to do that! Yet they’re wildly different players.
After almost four months and thirteen games of college football action, we finally have a Heisman Trophy field. “Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance and hard work”.
“Do it again and try to do it again”, Watson said. “Our football team, we like the concept of being smart people as well as physical, tough football players”.
Watson is Clemson University’s first-ever Heisman Trophy finalist. There’s a reason Henry is the favorite (albeit by a slim margin).
One Heisman candidate broke a record held by Herschel Walker. Henry isn’t comfortable in the spotlight, so on a day when all the questions presented to him centered on his achievements, Henry often diverted.
Henry, meanwhile, has a built-in advantage. Coming out of high school as a four-star recruit, big things were expected of McCaffrey. They call it “Pac-12 After Dark”. Remove the Tigers’ quarterback, and there is no chance they are even in the playoff discussion, much less the #1 seed. So, yes, Henry accomplished something that 25 college football players had done before, but McCaffrey accomplished something that nobody had done before. Robinson said it was “pretty crazy” watching Henry carry the ball a combined 90 times for 460 yards and two touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s last two victories: a 29-13 triumph over Auburn to reach the SEC championship game and a 29-15 win over Florida that sealed a berth in the playoffs. He grinded down defenses.
“Any individual effort is a team statistic”, said McCaffrey, who is the son of former National Football League wide receiver Ed McCaffrey. “But it seems like there’s a Derrick Henry on Alabama every year”. He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954. And he gets better as he goes.
Of course the fun won’t end when the actual ceremony arrives, and Watson said not winning wouldn’t blemish a so-far flawless season.
