Star Wars 1313 could make a comeback
But 1313 was a very different Star Wars game than we’ve seen before, focusing not on the Jedi but on a bounty hunter pursuing a contract in the seedy underbelly of the Imperial homeworld’s lower levels. According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, they are looking at some cancelled projects and that includes Star Wars 1313. A lot of people were pretty excited about it, but unfortunately when Disney bought Star Wars, the developer LucasArts was shut down and the game was cancelled.
At the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington where he was being honored for his achievements in arts and culture, Lucas told Vulture, “I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for”. Star Wars, you know, is a place, it’s a universe, so those stories are constructed a little differently than Marvel. “We definitely want to do something”.
Finally, Kennedy denied that the films would themselves create yet more spinoffs and sequels.
Vader’s Vault isn’t the only company that specializes in making Star Wars gifts and replicas for either side of the Force, but a few things set them apart.
Kennedy’s statement did not just cover the films, as it also included related entertainment media like animated TV shows, Disney XD’s “Rogue One”, books, and even theme park attractions. Something about the humor, the story, the battles, and of course Yoda just spoke to me when I was young.
So far, it has seemed that the standalones would be prequels to the Original Trilogy, with Rogue One and the Han Solo movie taking place before A New Hope. Considering the depth of the Star Wars galaxy, it could be argued that this model could work even better than something like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an interview with Slashfilm, Kennedy revealed that the filmmakers involved would have the freedom to explore different genres and styles, separate from the established feel of the Saga movies.
