Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo set to visit BYU next week

Reynolds has been a four-year starter in a triple-option offense at Navy, giving him plenty of rushing career rushing chances while helping the Midshipmen qualify for their fourth consecutive bowl appearance.

The Black Knights led for a majority of the game on Saturday until Keenan Reynolds hit Jamir Tillman on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 5:51 to play.

“It definitely kind of reminds you of why you’re really here”, Reynolds said. The Black Knights are finishing their fifth-straight losing campaign, and second under head Jeff Monken, but their No. 8 ranked rushing attack could slow Navy and snap the slide.

“We’re an institution, and we’re certainly a football program, that’s steeped in team and not about ‘me.’ All of a sudden, it’s become about that”, Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said. Monken took over from Rich Ellerson, who was Army’s coach for its only winning record this century in 2010, but that was followed by an 8-28 record during the next three years.

“Ultimately, ” said the second-year coach and former Navy assistant, “that’s our job at West Point; to build those warriors”. “There is no love lost, no Kumbaya between Army, Navy and Air Force”.

Army’s 10th touchdown reception of the season – a 39-yard, over-the-shoulder catch by Poe – provided the Black Knights with the 17-14 lead with 2:08 left in the second quarter. Just because he is talking to BYU does not mean that the move will happen, but it’s possible Navy will have a coaching change on its hands. “He gets us in the position we need to be in, but once we are between the white lines, it’s all about us”. Army employed 17 different helmets, representing the 17 branches cadets can enter after graduation….

Navy now is 10-2 headed into its Military Bowl matchup against Pittsburgh while Army drops to 2-10.

Navy’s run of dominance in this series continues to reach new heights. Coaching tenures have often ended with a loss in the game.
