It’s over: Bucks hand Warriors 1st loss, win 108-95
After pulling through a double overtime war with the Boston Celtics, the Golden State Warriors visit Milwaukee looking to take their historic start to the season to 25-0 at the expense of the Bucks.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry shoots as he is pressured by Boston Celtics guard James Young (13) during an NBA basketball game in Boston, Friday, Dec. 11, 2015. The Bucks beat the Lakers 120-104 on January 9, 1972, snapping Los Angeles’ NBA record 33-game winning streak.
Golden State (24-1) came into the game needing just 10 wins to break the NBA’s all-time record of 33 straight wins, but failed to win the last of their seven-game road trip.
“We will definitely cherish this, because it doesn’t happen often”, Golden State center Andrew Bogut said.
Stevens told reporters in Charlotte: “This is a great test of will for our team because of the minutes (we played last night), and also the fact that we’re playing a really good team who’s rolling”. “Next year you could be on a different team and nobody’s talking about you”. The bench could be asked to log major minutes in Milwaukee, particularly if Thompson remains out.
“Exhausting, but it was fun”, Curry said. “We’ll dig deep for tomorrow”.
A victory in Milwaukee would give the Warriors a record as improbable as anything they’ve done. Anybody who is disappointed that Golden State was not able to go home 7-0 on this road trip and stay unbeaten simply does not understand biology or sports.
RAPTORS 90, BUCKS 83: DeMar DeRozan had 27 points and the Toronto Raptors held off the late-charging Milwaukee Bucks for their third straight win. “Everyone complements each other, which is tough to find the right type of guys in this league”, Golden State’s Andre Iguodala told reporters after the game. Ian Mahinmi scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. The key in this league is can you sustain a high level of play night-in and night-out for 82 games and like I said we’re getting team’s best but can they keep that same intensity and level of play 82 times? “It takes nothing away from what we’ve done to start the regular season”. Despite the squad’s lack of depth, it has performed very well in the second half of back-to-backs (4-1).
They trailed by five points with 2:07 left in regulation and Boston had two chances to wrap it up in the waning seconds of regular time.
ABOUT THE WARRIORS (24-0): Thompson will likely be a game-time decision once again and his presence on the court would be a big boost, if only to provide some much-needed manpower following Friday’s marathon.
The Hornets hit 18 of 37 shots from 3-point range, with Walker and Batum each shooting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc.
Curry missed seven of his first eight shots from the field and had seven points through the end of the quarter.
