Rick & Morty Creators Writing For New MST3K
Including a Kickstarter campaign that raised $5.76 million, Mystery Science Theater 3000 mastermind Joel Hodgson and his supporters have raised $6.3 million. At this point enough has been raised for a nine-episode season, but if just one more million can be gathered by the time the buzzer sounds, they can guarantee a full twelve episodes.
The Wrap is reporting that Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, and Joel McHale have all been confirmed to make guest appearances on the new season of MST3K.
Thanks to Kickstarter, Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans can expect 14 new episodes of the 1990’s cult classic next year, Yahoo News is reporting.
I’ll be crossing my fingers and hoping comedy legends like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lena Dunham, Margaret Cho, Kristen Schaal, Ellie Kemper, Jenny Slate, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Silverman, Melissa McCarthy, Chelsea Peretti, Megan Amram, and Laraine Newman also see Hodgson’s invitation and show up as cameos on the new MST3K. Comedian Patton Oswalt will also write and act on the show.
Hodgson revealed the news Thursday, hours before the show’s final day on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Clearly, Hodgson knows what we nerds like in front of the camera, but what about behind the camera? Other guest writers will include comedian Dana Gould, the comedy band Paul & Storm, Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, Ready Player One author Ernie Cline, and Book of Mormon co-writer Robert Lopez. Other new cast members include Hampton Yount, Baron Vaughn, and Jonah Ray.
Hodgson said the campaign was not about besting “Veronica Mars” or “Super Troopers 2”, another crowdfunded film. It’s still over a million short of its 5.5 million dollar goal, and as a total nerd I can not stand for this. Well, today a new wave of announcements proved that the show’s writers will be just as nerdy as the onscreen talent.
