Star Wars Night, Channel 5, December 11
Meanwhile, Google is already in on the mania leading up to the new film, having already released a series of Star Wars modifications to its apps, including a Google Maps feature where you take directions with a TIE Fighter, and Star Wars wallpaper in Gmail. It will hit the theaters on December 16, 2016. Well, Lucasfilm (company behind the Star Wars franchise) president Kathleen Kennedy certainly has not ruled out the possibility.
So it’s less likely that we’ll see characters jumping from Rogue One to, say, that rumored Boba Fett movie, which is unlike the Marvel method of doing business. There would now be a new Star Wars film every year, with standalone one-off stories interspersing the ongoing episodes. Of course, this does not mean there are no set plans in place for a rich Star Wars cinematic universe.
Fair enough. Kennedy also said that Lucasfilm is looking for specific filmmakers for the Star Wars Story movies to bring in unique sensibilities to their projects.
Finally, Kennedy denied that the films would themselves create yet more spinoffs and sequels. “Star Wars 1313” took some of the best and most popular elements in “Knights of the Republic” and made it even better, PCGamer reports.
That makes sense, because Kennedy also revealed that the standalone movies do not necessarily have to be prequels and they’re intended as one-offs, not separate franchise starters.
It just so happens to be Rogue One is the precursor to New Hope and yes, this Han Solo idea but I would not argue that we are setting up any kind of prequel notion with these standalone movies.
“The knee-jerk reaction, if I had to, is Ava DuVernay, who I think would just kill it”, Abrams said. She said that “the stories can fall pretty much anywhere on the timeline”. Second, their prices manage to avoid the astronomical heights that some replica lightsabers reach, probably because they manage to avoid official movie licensing (sorry if that’s a dealbreaker for you hardcore fans, but it does allow for a lot more imagination in the saber department).
