Trump’s name restored at Dubai golf complex
A Dubai real estate firm DAMAC Properties, which is building the complex, initially said it would stand by the Republican Presidential candidate.
Also, pieces of letters that appeared to spell out “Trump” had been pulled down from a stone wall and left lying on the sandy ground.
Trump on Monday called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” because of terrorism perpetrated by radical Muslims, including a married couple who fatally shot 14 people and wounded 21 others in San Bernardino, Calif., last week.
Damac Properties has pulled down a billboard featuring Trump at its Akoya by Damac project. The project, AKOYA by DAMAC includes a Trump golf course, community and spa.
Trump also has deals with property developers and golf courses in the Emirates. The sign, outside a sales office at the site, originally had Trump’s name in lettering on a stone wall. It earlier said it “would not comment further on Mr. Trump’s personal or political agenda, nor comment on the internal American political debate scene”.
‘Spanning 42 million square feet, the development is home to a variety of incredible properties, some the result of collaborations with the likes of world-renowned brands such as The Trump Organization and Paramount Hotels & Resorts.
Late Thursday, Bulent Kural, the general manager of Trump Towers in Istanbul, said his company “regrets and condemns” Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.
Dubai’s retail giant, Landmark Group, made a decision to stop selling Trump-branded products in its “Lifestyle” outlets.
Donald Trump’s name and likeness have been removed from a Dubai development on which the Republican presidential candidate is to manage a golf course. “I have done so much for Scotland, including building Trump International Golf Links, which has received the highest accolades, and is what many believe to be one of the greatest golf courses anywhere in the world”, the 69-year-old said. It is part of Dubai-based conglomerate Landmark Group.
Earlier this week, a former Trump business partner in Dubai, construction billionaire Khalaf al-Habtoor, said the tycoon had wrecked his prospects for successful future collaborations in the region. Answering questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Osborne said “the best way to confront the views of someone like Donald Trump is to engage in a robust democratic argument with him about why he is profoundly wrong”.
