Palestinians killed in West Bank attack, clashes
A Palestinian was shot dead today as he tried to drive his vehicle into a military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli army said.
Palestinians said a 22-year-old local man was fatally shot in the chest.
According to the reporters, the brother of a Palestinian teen who lost his life in October, in the circumstances which had not yet been cleared, was among the three Palestinians, including one suspect attacker who was put to death by Israeli fire on Friday, said the authorities.
Hours earlier, shots were fired at the West Bank’s Gilboa checkpoint Friday morning. Israeli forces have killed 109 Palestinians, around two-thirds of whom the army identified as assailants.
Al-Qedra said that 68 Palestinians were wounded by the Israeli fire, 58 of them were injured by live ammunition while 10 suffered suffocation.
Palestinian security sources identified the driver as Issa Haroub from Dir Samat village west of Hebron.
Since October 1, nearly daily attacks and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers have killed 115 on the Palestinian side, 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.
The anger behind a recent uptick in violence has been attributed by several observers to a July arson attack in the West Bank, by suspected Jewish settlers, that killed 18-month-old Palestinian child Ali Dawabsheh and his parents.
On the Gaza border, a Palestinian was shot dead and 12 wounded in clashes with Israeli forces.
In a separate incident in central Ramallah, Israeli security forces raided a shop in the early hours of Friday, leading to clashes between residents and soldiers, witnesses said. The Shin Bet intelligence agency said that he confessed to carrying out the assault and Salam is a part of Hamas from the West Bank village of Luban.
Islamic State will assume the moral leadership of the Arab world if Israel does not stop crushing Palestinians’ hopes of statehood, a senior PLO official warned on Friday. Palestinians say the attacks stem from despair at achieving statehood.
