Army-Navy game: Television schedule and 4 more things to know
Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds (19) rushes during an NCAA college football game against Army Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, in Philadelphia. Reynolds delivered the pass to Tillman in stride, and the junior wide receiver ran untouched down the right sideline for the game’s final points before 69,722 at Lincoln Financial Field. But Reynolds completed six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown and ran 21 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns. In his second career start, he threw for 208 yards and a touchdown. In what might be the most important record of his career, that TD also gave him 7 rushing touchdowns in Army Navy games, making him first all-time in that category as well. “But I don’t think there was a great disparity in terms of talent tonight”.
“Our country is in good hands with those kids going out to serve our country”, Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said.
Army topped its rivals with 17 different helmets, representing the 17 branches cadets can enter after graduation. On Army’s next drive, Carter fumbled away the snap at the Navy 33-yard line. Army had opportunities to take the lead in the fourth quarter.
It was a great effort by the Black Knights, who came in as huge underdogs against No. 21 Navy (10-2).
Facing a third-and-22, Chris Carter was able to find Poe for a 31-yard connection.
WBAL NewsRadio 1090 is excited to bring you the 115th Army-Navy Game. After a 35 yard pass that got them in Navy territory, Army tried to pull out the double pass only to have it intercepted by Daiquan Thomasson for their third turnover in as many drives. The Black Knights actually held a 17-14 lead at halftime – the first time they’ve had the advantage at the break since 2009 – on a 39-yard pass from freshman quarterback Chris Carter to Edgar Poe.
Navy sacked Carter three times and in the second half appeared to rattle him. One of the most famous matchups was in 1944 between the schools – the 46th Army Navy game.
In the first half of the game, Reynolds set that mark, and he now has the most rushing touchdowns, 85, in Division I FCS and FBS history.
On Saturday, the score was 17-14 Army at the half.
Reynolds said after the game that Army’s linebackers performed better than any other linebacking unit he had seen all season. Reynolds has done it with the help of excellent Navy teams, but these last four years will always be remembered as the Reynolds Era.
“I didn’t want to be one of those guys that says, ‘Read my lips”.
QUOTE-UNQUOTE: “We really don’t talk about it. The media talks about it, the fans talk about it, our alumni talks about it. We don’t ever talk about that in our football building or out on the practice field”. Navy plays Pittsburgh (8-4) in the December 28 Military Bowl at Annapolis. In the fourth quarter, Army had plenty of chances. He said earlier in the week he would visit BYU on Monday.
There’s not much that can top the spectacle of the Army Navy game. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that we’re a little frustrated.
