Conor McGregor knocks out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Yoel Romero another middleweight bout on the card could see the possible victor fight the victor of Weidman vs. Rockhold for the title.
With over 12-months of hype surrounding this title, the excitement in the air was palpable as McGregor, the interim feather champion, entered the arena opposite the Aldo, the reigning featherweight champion.
“Nobody can take that left hand shot”, McGregor said after the fight. McGregor went out and knocked out Chad Mendes, ensuring the fight with Aldo would go on as planned. The accuracy of the punch was all the more impressive given that Aldo also connected with a right hand to McGregor’s face. If you match up our records you’ll see who the king is. “There is no doubt now”.
The outspoken Irishman (19-2) stopped Aldo (26-2) with a spectacular left hook to the jaw, making good on pre-fight jibes he’d end UFC 194 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand within the first round. That can happen to anyone in a combat sport, and Aldo is is right that the main event of UFC 194 wasn’t really a fight. He said afterwards there was a part of him that wished the “contest had stretched out a little bit longer”, but felt that the result would have inevitably been the same.
“I feel I have the shots, the timing, the precision. We’ll have to come back in here and it’s on to the next at this point”. McGregor now has a money line of -105 to win. The last time McGregor lost a fight was in 2010.
‘Don’t get me wrong, it’s a tough weight cut but tell me one time I’ve missed it. Tell me one time I’ve not turned up the next day fresh. It all began with a world tour that started in Rio de Janeiro and ended with McGregor snatching Aldo’s belt away in front of screaming Dubliners. But days before the fight, Aldo was injured and forced to pull out. “If I say it’s going to happen, it happens”.
Rockhold (15-2) finished his own championship victory with brute style, pounding Weidman on the ground late in the third and again in the fourth. “But now we are onto the next chapter”, added the new champion, who had predicted a first-round finish.
