Murray says he’s happy playing for the Eagles
On Sunday, Kelly and McCoy will be on the same field for the first time since the trade.
“Chip Kelly on Tuesday said that the Eagles will use a ‘running back by committee” approach, which will depend on the weekly matchups and health he says. “I’d love to shake LeSean’s hand”, said the Eagles coach.
In a conference call with the Buffalo media Wednesday in advance of Sunday’s game between the Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelly said that he would love to shake the hand of McCoy before Sunday’s game.
“Harrisburg still means a lot to me”, McCoy said Thursday”. “When I signed on the dotted line, I knew I was going to be here for a long time and I committed to winning a lot of games here”.
However, McCoy has no intention to shake Kelly’s hand.
Murray did say after practicing today that he is happy in Philadelphia, and given that it would count $13 million against the cap if the Eagles released him after this year, he’s probably best served getting comfortable here. But there’s nothing for us to talk about.
Buffalo’s feature back, who has rolled up 100 or more all-purpose yards in the last six games for the Bills, had the good fortune of seeing his head coach and two current teammates go through the same type of experience earlier this season.
It sure was a devilish spin, painting the episode as a coincidence and intimating there was no dialogue about role, or lack thereof between the running back and the big boss who signed him to a five-year $40 million contract.
McCoy, who insisted he doesn’t have hard feelings for Kelly, still said, “Chip can’t shake s*** at all”. To be honest with you, is that we were told the trade wasn’t initiated and wouldn’t be initiated until the next morning so there were no phone calls to be made. “I tried to call him after [the trade]”. I know how they are. And he should be pissed.
And of course, Kelly himself said it, too. But every player wants the opportunity to contribute to the team, especially me as a competitor, to have a chance to go out there and work out and do what I can to help this team.
The general summary of the presser was that Kelly felt that the trade was mishandled and that the story broke before unintentionally and before he had a chance to talk to LeSean despite trying to get hold of him.
“I’m not talking to Chip (Kelly)”. “I think it’s the small things”. And I understand why he’s bothered. “Because I was a part of it, it’s on me”. Actually, I more than wonder it. I would expect the Cowboys to get involved in the mix. We never had a great relationship, best friends, so there’s nothing to talk about it. As anyone who has ever played on a great sports team can attest to, if you become comfortable with a group of people and build up into something elite, there is a let-down when it’s over. It hurts me that they put their own identity, their own egos in front of the team. Again, I have no issues with LeSean. Chip Kelly downplayed Murray’s meeting with Lurie this week, but that hasn’t stopped questions being raised about Murray’s future with the Eagles.
