UFC 194: Conor McGregor Knocks Out Aldo In 13 Seconds
Penn. Whatever happens, whatever Dana White and them want, I’m ready. “There is no doubt now”.
McGregor won the featherweight championship belt and also will be on the cover of the new UFC 2 video game by Electronic Arts with Rousey.
Aldo and McGregor were initially set to face off at UFC 189, but the Brazilian pulled out with just a few weeks to go due to an injury suffered in training camp. The knockout stands as the fastest title finish in UFC history. But precision beats power, and timing beats speed, and that’s what you saw there.
“Jose has been a phenomenal champion”, McGregor says. The fans celebrated long after McGregor left the cage, singing and carousing and forming a lengthy conga line.
Aldo vs. McGregor broke all kinds of records on Saturday night in Las Vegas, and is poised to break even more when all the pay-per-view tallying is said and done.
It was McGregor’s fifth consecutive knockout, one he had predicted.
McGregor and Jose Aldo finally faced off inside the Octagon and for those who were rooting for Aldo to use his experience against the Irishman, it was the precision and timing of The Notorious that made the difference.
Fortunately for Aldo (UFC 7-1), referee John McCarthy was on hand to call an end to the bout and prevent further damage as McGregor wheeled away to celebrate his triumph from atop the octagon with his legion of adoring support.
Aldo has defended his championship against the likes of Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes and Frankie Edgar, all of which went to a decision.
“The trash talking didn’t affect me”, Aldo said. I’ve been winning. “Me and Conor lead the division in wins right now, so why not?”
The new UFC champion reluctantly realizes she might have to wait for their rematch. “I can take over this, ‘” said McGregor.
Rockhold has stopped his last five opponents.
The fight turned in the third when Weidman tried a spinning wheel kick. Aldo’s wish for a rematch, despite his reign serving as the only featherweight one in UFC history until late Saturday night, looks unlikely to be fulfilled any time soon.
“And that was it. I said ‘Man, I’m taking this”. The fighters traded words before been separated by UFC officials.
Demian Maia, another former jiu-jitsu world champion ranked sixth among welterweight contenders, outgrappled No. 12 Gunnar (Gunni) Nelson – a black belt himself – while administering plenty of ground-and-pound pain along the way to a lopsided 30-26, 30-25, 30-25 decision.
