Golden State of mind: Warriors rewrite the record books
The Golden State Warriors made it 19 consecutive wins to start the National Basketball Association season after outlasting the Utah Jazz 106-103 on Monday.
With the game tied at 101 with 51 seconds left, Curry hit a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Warriors the lead. Green registered his third career triple-double with 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 14 points.
On the previous play, Utah guard Rodney Hood missed a long three-point attempt with 5.9 seconds left – a shot that could have given the Jazz the lead.
In San Antonio, forward Kawhi Leonard tallied 22 points and six San Antonio players scored in double-figures as the Spurs won their fifth straight game to remain undefeated at home. It is the second of a seven-game road trip that will start this December for the Warriors while the Hornets are in the final game of their current seven-game homestand that started last November 18.
The good thing for them is, they kind of like it there.
Walton said the team isn’t anxious about the streak. The Jazz committed only eight turnovers, and, consequently, the Warriors weren’t able to get out in transition as much as they usually do-they managed only five fast-break points all night.
A basket and a foul by Favors put the Jazz back ahead 99-97 with two minutes to play, but Curry responded with a jumper to tie the game back up.
But the Golden State Warriors would be hard pressed to win their next game after that as they face last year’s finals opponent, Cleveland Cavaliers (13-4).
Charlotte won’t have one of its top scorers available for Wednesday’s matchup, however, as center Al Jefferson will be sidelined two to three weeks after straining his left calf against the Bucks. Gordon Hayward leads in points with 17.7 per game. With a little under two minutes of action to go in the first quarter, the team enjoyed a comfortable 39-19 lead over the Suns.
Walker has gone 15 of 31 from 3-point range while averaging 23.4 points in his last seven games, while Lamb continues to produce in his sixth-man role, averaging 12.8 points on the season.
Most of the Warriors’ streak games have been runaways, but they came from 23 behind to beat the Clippers in Los Angeles, and had to go overtime to beat the Brooklyn Nets. Harrison Barnes, who is expected to be out for at least a week, missed the game due to an ankle injury.
Suns: The 135 points were the most Phoenix has allowed this season and the 75 were the most in a half…. Right now they’re the 7th seeded team in the Western Conference, a spot they don’t plan to give up easily.
Green said: “When we show up (to other arenas), if we don’t bring our “A game” each and every night, we can be beaten”.
