BJP only indulges in communal politics: Rahul
Gandhi was on a two-day visit to Assam from December 11, which the chief minister described as a “grand success”.
“I wanted to see how chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s works regarding women empowerment”.
Gandhi also told the journalists that the leadership of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Gogoi would decide on forging alliance with any political party in the run up to the polls.
A section of the people, particularly women had protested near the Barpeta Satra on Saturday as the Congress leader did not enter the historical Satra and started the road show even without bowing before the Satra. They spread hatred and anger and make brothers fight with each other.
Later at a different venue Rahul met party MPs, MLAs and grass root workers where he launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The people of Assam would not want any communal politics, ” Rahul Gandhi said.
“India thought “acche din” (good days) will come as promised by Modi before the elections, but after losing the Bihar poll, he does not mention a word about it”, Gandhi observed.
At the public meeting held in the minority-dominated AIUDF bastion, Rahul also spoke about the achievements of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam in the last 15 years. “The people of the state saw him and listened to him but refused to vote for the party due to its communal agenda”. He said that “15 years back, there was violence in Assam when people were killed, mothers and sisters cried, tears flowed, there was bloodbath”.
Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that after electoral debacle in Bihar, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi does not talk of Bihar anymore.
He said the former UPA government at the centre brought the MNREGA so that poor people of the country can be helped.
“The UPA government waived loan burden to the tune of Rs 70,000 crore for the farmers”.
Apart from seeking a tacit understanding with Mr Ajmal to avoid a split in the Muslim vote, the party is also trying to rope in election strategist, Prashant Kishor whose wife is from Assam. “Modiji will come again to Assam before the elections”.
