Navy Midshipmen vs. Army Black Knights Live Stream
Keenan Reynolds’ second rushing TD was his 85th career score, the most for any FBS or FCS Division I player.
The 31 combined points between Army and Navy were the most scored in the first half of this game since 1998, as Army has a surprising halftime lead despite being 22-point underdogs.
“I want to pay respect to coach Monken and Army, ” said Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo, who is expected to announce soon that he is taking the BYU head coaching position.
Despite an impressive effort from Army against No. 21 Navy on Saturday, the Midshipmen escaped with a 21-17 win in Philadelphia, continuing their dominance in the rivalry.
While Reynolds had another exemplary performance, Army’s freshman quarterback Chris Carter played well enough to give Army Cadets and alumni hope that he could end their losing streak to Navy during his career. Navy has defeated Army a series-record 13 straight times. With the Army-Navy game Saturday afternoon, Navy officials had arranged for a helicopter to transport Reynolds from Philadelphia in time for the presentation. It gave Navy a 21-17 lead.
“This football team has never lost to Navy and that is the way we have to approach it”, he said. They got inside the redzone, but a great play by Daiquan Thomasson on 3 and 5 forced Army to settle for a 32 yard field goal to go up 3-0. Army’s defense stiffened, especially in the second half.
Despite Navy’s recent rivalry dominance, the showdown is no stranger to close games: The teams were tied at 7 entering the half previous year before the Mids managed a 17-10 win, and three of the last four outings have been decided by a touchdown or less.
BREAKOUT PLAYER: While Reynolds was his normally productive self on the ground, he found sporadic success throwing to wide receiver Jamir Tillman, who accounted for five of the team’s six receptions and 102 of its 113 total receiving yards. Beating Army has become an annual tradition for Navy. Navy’s defense was stellar again, forcing three turnovers.
Reynolds’ record-breaking score, a 58-yard scamper, came just two plays after Army had taken a 3-0 lead on its first possession. Carter took over after injuries to sophomore Ahmad Bradshaw (468 rushing yards, five touchdowns) and senior A.J. Schurr (384 rushing yards, seven TDs) – Army’s second- and third-leading runners.
“The only thing that is really disturbing, to all of us, is the fact that it’s been played out through the course of the week”, Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said. Army had opportunities to take the lead in the fourth quarter. “There were a lot of people talking about how we had no chance”. Army would love to play upset and finally get a win. The Midshipmen have secured a berth in the Military Bowl on December 28 against Pittsburgh.
