Conor McGregor Knocks Out Jose Aldo with First Punch at UFC 194
Conor McGregor produced the fastest title fight finish in UFC history, knocking out long-time champion Jose Aldo after just 13 seconds of their featherweight title unification bout at UFC 194 in Las Vegas. “If not, then we do Frankie Edgar, and José Aldo would fight somebody else”.
On Saturday night, the 27-year-old Irishman successfully completed his hostile takeover of Jose Aldo’s UFC featherweight title.
‘I said to Lorenzo [Fertitta] and I said to Dana [White], I’m breaking these big numbers, I’m breaking these half a billion dollar revenue numbers like the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
McGregor (19-2) finished the fight with an electrifying exchange shortly after the opening bell, slipping Aldo’s lead right and cracking Aldo on the jaw with a huge left hand.
I wish him and his loyal team well on their journey back.
It was just 13 seconds in the official history books, but for Conor McGregor, UFC 194 was a lifetime of work.
The victory caps a stunning rise for “The Notorious”, who’d said Aldo – previously unbeaten in a decade – was running scared when he’d pulled out of their fight in July with a rib injury.
And McGregor said: ‘I’m catching up [with Mayweather].
“I say what I do now”, McGregor said, via Fox Sports.
The sandpaper-like McGregor, a former plumber who has yet to meet a microphone or camera he doesn’t like, had taken one verbal shot after another at Aldo, whose lack of English restricted his comebacks.
“I’ve worked my whole life for those 13 seconds” McGregor told the Irish Independent.
But despite the definitive outcome of the fight Aldo, who defended his UFC belt seven times, believes he should have an immediate rematch.
For, McGregor it was right back to his “Mystic-Mac” gimmick of predicting how his fight play out. Respect to a great champion in José Aldo.
What is next for the new featherweight champion? Just precision. No speed.
One of the reasons McGregor’s fights sellout is the large contingent of Irish fans that travel from wherever they live to watch him in person. “I’d love it. “[McGregor’s] flawless for [New York].
“When they show up and face me, they are re-energised”.
“It’s hard to take this all in”, Rockhold said.
