Carson threatens to leave Republicans
Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson again threatened to bolt the Republican Party on Sunday if leaders use a “back room deal” to decide the presidential nomination.
Like many of Trump’s ideas, his call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” was skimpy on details and of questionable constitutionality.
“I’ve been hearing about these closed-door meetings and I don’t like that”, Trump told CNN’s “State of the Union With Jake Tapper”. Trump continues to lead the GOP presidential race, while Cruz has surged into 2nd place. On ABC, Carson stated Republican Party bash chairman Reince Priebus assured him in that it was a routine meeting & in that the party bash has no intention of slicing a back room deal. With the public overall, the proposed ban was far less popular, with 58 percent saying they are opposed.
Trump said party leaders need to “get used to” him being in the race, and he hopes that reports that Republican Party officials gathered recently to discuss contesting his nomination – even if he receives the required number of delegates – are incorrect.
There are those who claim there could never be another fascist era like what happened in Germany and led to World War II and the extermination of millions of people due to their religion. And that is something that we can’t let him keep doing. I’ve had people call me at the highest level saying, “You’re doing us a favor” because they know they have a problem very well.
The Republican establishment’s participation in a bid to thwart Trump comes a little more than three months after the billionaire signed a loyalty pledge presented to him by Priebus.
“If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party”, Mr Carson said in a statement that referenced Trump’s repeated threats to leave the party if treated “unfairly”.
Cruz’s rise and Carson’s fall aren’t happenstance, the poll found: Among “very conservative” voters, Carson has dropped 23% while Cruz has risen 23% since late October. “Sorry I did this to you, but you’re going to have to get used to it”. Under the First Amendment, he has the right to say whatever he wants.
