World Health Organization Reveals HIV Could Be Eradicated In
As the world commemorates the 27th World AIDS Day, Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta rang the alarm over HIV infections among the Kenyan youth.
According to the Florida Department of Health, in 2012, Jackson County ranked 42nd out of the 67 counties in AIDS cases; dropping drastically from 66 in 2011.
World AIDS Day is observed around the world on December 1 each year.
“In Kansas City we are actually leading the nation in getting people into care, keeping them in care and people keeping the viral load undetectable”, Missy Koonce, president of the foundation board, said.
As of 2012, approximately 35 million people worldwide are living with HIV or AIDS and we are seeing a growing trend right here in the Heartland.
Meanwhile, members of the public are reminded to take necessary precautions in protecting themselves from HIV/AIDS by engaging in safe sex, having one sexual partner and refraining from sharing items such as razors and needles.
“It’s important to be tested because if you’re not tested and you don’t know your status, you could be spreading it and not even aware”, said LaVere. Health officials say everyone is at risk and the earlier you find out, the better.
There is no need for people who are HIV negative to get infected as this represents failure of HIV interventions in place to save them, Namibia’s Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Bernard Haufiku, has said.
HIV testing is a simple procedure and results are available in about 20 minutes. About 42 per cent of the newly reported cases were detected by HIV tests conducted while the individuals concerned were receiving medical care. Another state program connects people with lower incomes with the drugs which, over the past 30 years, have greatly improved the prognosis for people infected with HIV.
