Swansea caretaker boss Alan Curtis: The players let down Garry Monk
Kelechi Iheanacho’s fortuitous stoppage-time goal gave Manchester City a 2-1 home win over managerless Swansea City on Saturday that sent Manuel Pellegrini’s side top in the Premier League.
Garry Monk has expressed sadness at his departure from Swansea, insisting it will not be long before the players are producing again and the club will be on the rise.
Jenkins relieved Monk of his duties in midweek following a run of one win in 11 games which had left the Swans just a point above the relegation zone.
“It’s with great sadness that I am leaving this special club”, said the 36-year-old in an emotional statement released through the League Managers Association.
Even though the Ghanaian is not a striker and with Batefimbi Gomis misfiring using the club’s six-goal leading scorer could be a tempting gamble, as the caretaker boss admits the sacking of Monk has affected all.
Moyes then went on to add that Swansea have a very stable model in place and the incoming manager will have a good structure to work with in South Wales.
Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes have both distanced themselves from the job at the Liberty Stadium.
United have yet to comment on the reports that Giggs is considering his future as Van Gaal’s assistant, with Swansea keen to make an ambitious appointment as the look to fill their managerial void. “And (in that case), he’s coming to me”.
“I can not speak about “if”. I let it be known earlier in the week that it wasn’t for me.
Swansea are in the process of drawing up a short-list of candidates and former Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, who is now at Greek club AEK Athens, is expected to be among the names discussed.
Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has dismissed the rumours linking him with the Swansea job and said that at the moment he is not interesting in becoming a manager.
After his sobering eight-month spell as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at United ended in April 2014, Moyes attempted to rebuild his career in Spain’s Primera Division at Sociedad. “He’s shown what he can do and he has to repeat that between now and the end of the season”.
