With streak over, regular season begins for Warriors
1971-72 Lakers – 33 game win streak ended. When asked if he had any thoughts about the league recognizing the Warriors’ streak as 28 games, tacking on four wins from the end of the 2014-15 season to their total, James simply shook his head to indicate that he didn’t.
Curry, the reigning NBA MVP, had 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, and he went just 2 of 8 from 3-point territory.
The closest thing to a complaint that I heard from Curry over the course of the trip was a faux protest about the length of shootarounds that he lodged with interim coach Luke Walton. “That’s why it is so hard to do what these guys have done so far. Tonight it caught up to us”. “We looked like we ran out of gas”.
“Every game was special, knowing that you started 24-0 and gave it all you had in that 25th game to try to keep it going, we have a nice little spot in history, a team has never had a start like we have and we can hold on to that”. Ailing Warriors coach Steve Kerr might be a Gregg Popovich disciple, but his players are the absolute anti-Spurs in this regard.
“They were everywhere”, Green said in the visitors locker room after the game.
“I told the guys postgame, ‘Now we can have a regular season, ‘” Green said.
“What we’re trying to do is be an National Basketball Association championship team, and that requires a lot of work and getting back to the fundamentals and the basics”. The teams whom the Warriors defeated en route to their streak had also faced their fair share of bad breaks.
Greg Monroe led the Bucks with 28 points.
Sneaking away from his midcourt chair moments before the final buzzer allowed the face of the to where Steph Curry and the had to walk off the floor.
The Wizards (10-12) snapped an 11-game losing streak to Dallas. Klay Thompson had 12, Festus Ezeli added 13 and no other Warriors finished above double figures in scoring.
It also helped that the Warriors, perhaps fighting fatigue after needing two overtimes to win at Boston on Friday, were cold from 3-point range. 500 selves of last season, when they surprised everyone with a 26-game improvement to 41-41 and the No. 6 seed in the East. That team largely has been absent, slippage coming due to unreliable shooting and defensive breakdowns that they mostly avoided Saturday. It was just the fourth time this season that Golden State trailed at the half.
The Los Angeles Clippers also ended a head-to-head hoodoo by defeating Brooklyn for the first time in eight attempts, winning 105-100.
But Draymond Green doesn’t think this was the first sloppy game the Warriors have played.
Manu Ginobili had 17 points for San Antonio, which has won six of seven.
Houston’s James Harden scored 30 points, leading the Rockets to a runaway 126-97 win that condemned the Los Angeles Lakers to a 13th loss in 14 games.
Harden scored a game-high 30 points and Howard had 18 and 12 rebounds.
