Browns take 49ers for a walk in Cleveland

It was a win we earned. Crowell is the first Browns back with at least 140 yards rushing since Peyton Hillis ran for 184 against New England in 2010….

– The Browns’ final touchdown drive illustrated all that went wrong with the 49ers defense: missed tackles on a 54-yard run by Isaiah Crowell, an inability to sack Manziel (Arik Armstead and Corey Lemonier got duped on one play) and finally an Ahmad Brooks unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty after Crowell s 3-yard touchdown run pushed the Browns lead to 24-3.

Johnson added 78 yards on the ground after breaking away from would-be tacklers to extend plays. There were some notable positive plays, including Quinton Dial’s field goal block, Jaquiski Tartt’s interception (on a disgusting Johnny Manziel throw), and a fumble recovery, but otherwise it was a disaster of a performance.

After throwing an interception late in the second quarter, Manziel sat on the bench on the sideline and repeatedly smacked himself in the head with a Surface tablet. Both players took advantage of huge holes created by the offensive line to rip off large chunks of yardage. He was replaced by Marcus Martin, who had originally started the game at center. I’m able to slow down all the protection stuff and make sure we have a guy on a guy and able to sit back there and know you’re protected.

He looked in control during the game, motioning receivers to keep running or adjust their routes while he was on the run. Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton left with a thumb injury in Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.

When Manziel did drop back to throw, he remained in the pocket until it was absolutely necessary to extend the play. Some players said they took the Browns lightly, which doesn t reflect well on the coaching staff s preparations, to say nothing of their inadequate game plans.

Gary Barnidge caught 5-of-7 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ Week 14 win over the 49ers. Brian Hartline eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time in a Browns “oranger” uniform.

But Draughn was also a virtual non-factor with just 43 yards on 11 carries with a long of 15.

San Francisco managed just two first-downs in their nine minutes on the field, while running just 23 plays for 48-yards across the first two-quarters. “There are some people that are skeptical, some people that probably don’t want to see that, but I do”. “I just think we fell short in the games that would possibly get us over that hump”.

The Browns went three-and-out during their next possession, and 49ers wide receiver Bruce Ellington returned Andy Lee’s 51-yard punt 36 yards to the Browns’ 32. 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert was sacked a whopping nine times by a Browns defense with all of 17 sacks this season prior to Sunday. Two of those came from rookie outside linebacker Nate Orchard, who showed the pass rushing skill he demonstrated at Utah.

There are three games left in the season, three more games for Tomsula to rally and build his case that he has things pointed in the right direction.
