Warriors’ historic win streak ends
The Golden State Warriors’ historic 28 game win streak came to an end against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. “Tonight it caught up to us”.
The shocking defeat came at the end of a grueling seven-game road trip for the tired Warriors, who won against the Boston Celtics on Friday with a hard and tiring double overtime game and extend the streak to 28 consecutive regular season victories dating back to last season. Many thought they could get close to – or break – the National Basketball Association record 33 game win streak set by the 1971/’72 Los Angeles Lakers. “I think now we can settle in more to the season”.
Saturday’s loss also ended an emerging debate over how to calculate the Warriors’ winning streak. Yet as a chuckling Curry went on to explain, those long mornings on game days are actually the players’ fault.
“He’s this generation’s Jordan”, Milwaukee’s coach Jason Kidd said.
At 10-15, the Milwaukee Bucks are nowhere near the contenders they were expected to be this season. They flew out of Milwaukee with seven weeks of fond memories that can’t be eclipsed by a single, streaks-snapping loss to the Bucks — and also the knowledge that the novelty is over and it’s time a bit of self-evaluation. “We talked about playing the World Champs and no matter what, we have to play our best”.
Draymond Green had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors.
In Dallas, Otto Porter scored a career-high 28 points, John Wall had 26 points and 16 assists, and Washington ended an 11-game losing streak against the Mavericks. Maybe. But while Curry complained about injuries after the game, the entire league laughed because the Warriors have probably been the healthiest team in the league for over a season.
“We have a very flexible team”, Mayo said.
Against the Bucks, it was the first time this season, the Warriors were held under 100 points.
“Losing sucks. Even if you’re 24-1, losing still sucks”. Truth is that 24-0 has given way to 24-1 and it is still a record better than every other team in the league so we can quit calling it the end of everything. “Come on, we can beat them”.
After the Warriors retreated to the visitor’s locker room at BMO Harris Bradley Center, the coaching staff said a few words. But with that being said we need to get back to some of the things we were doing.
“It has been mentally taxing, just every game”.
The Warriors trailed 59-48 at halftime after shooting 2 of 13 from 3-point range.
But after playing at Utah Nov. 30 and then going to Charlotte, Toronto, Brooklyn, Indiana, Boston and Milwaukee, Golden State is just happy to be going home. Analysts say they have a realistic chance of equaling the “95-’96 Bulls” record of 72 wins in a season. The Bucks weren’t afraid to run at Golden State’s preferred tempo – the game’s pace was a blazing 104.46 – and it played to their advantage.
But first the Bucks will play a rare back-to-back set in Los Angeles, facing Kobe Bryant and the Lakers at the Staples Center on Tuesday night before meeting the Clippers on Wednesday night.
