The event, dubbed Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert, saw performances from Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Steven Tyler and individual sets from Kristofferson, Nelson and Stapleton at one of America’s biggest venues, New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
It was 35 years ago today that John Lennon was murdered in front of his wife outside his home.
The ceremony is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m.at 1750 N. Vine St., Hollywood.
Lennon, who did more than most to define the Sixties and Seventies as an era, was shot at 10.50pm on that cold December evening.
And yet, paradoxically, Mr. Lennon never lost sight of that dream.
A memorial to John Lennon exists in a part of Central Park that is across from Lennon and Ono’s apartment.
Doctors strove to save the internationally known pacifist from what would be his violent demise, but he was pronounced dead within 15 minutes as “All My Loving” hummed on Roosevelt Hospital’s speakers in the background. Some fans were so consumed with grief that they actually took their own lives, not being able to live in a world where John Lennon was murdered. He returned to music in 1980 with the 14-song album, “Double Fantasy”, which was Lennon’s seventh and final studio album released during his lifetime.
“We were walking home one night along Central Park West on December 8 and we passed the Dakota”, Michael recalled to the New York Daily News. He has been denied parole eight times and remains behind bars. Four of the five shots penetrated Lennon’s body. “War is over, if you want it”, Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, proclaimed in full-page Christmas ads in 1971.
“This was no robbery”, the spokesman said, adding that Mr Lennon was probably shot by a “deranged” person.
A police spokesman said a suspect was in custody, but he had no other details of the shooting. John Lennon is dead. An unacknowledged President who stood for peace, Lennon is inextricable from their memories of Vietnam and the moratoriums….
