MADISON GESIOTTO: Ohio AG Mike DeWine: Planned Parenthood practices
On Sunday, Planned Parenthood filed a federal lawsuit seeking to counter DeWine’s claims, and preempt a state lawsuit that DeWine said he would file Monday.
“Planned Parenthood handles medical tissue just like other health care providers do, said Jerry Lawson, CEO of Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio in a written statement”. It went on to say that there’s an “increased concern over the sensitivity of abortion-related records”, particularly after a November fatal shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood.
“This sudden and targeted treatment is no doubt motivated by his animus to a woman’s right to safe and legal abortion and to Planned Parenthood in particular”, Planned Parenthood says in the lawsuit.
The investigation was initiated in July to explore whether Planned Parenthood affiliates in Bedford Heights, Cincinnati and Columbus were violating OH law by selling fetal tissue or abortion trafficking.
Cuomo was referring to Fiorina’s remarks during a Republican debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library last September, when she graphically described a scene she claims to have watched in a video showing a Planned Parenthood abortion.
Planned Parenthood is fighting back against what it calls false allegations by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.
DeWine said that was a violation of state law requiring “a fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner”.
When asked where Planned Parenthood thought the aborted baby parts ended up, if not in landfills, Kight responded, “The Ohio attorney general hasn’t said that any law has been broken”.
Republican Senator Kurt Schaefer says Planned Parenthood is in contempt. He leads the committee reviewing abortion practices, launched after anti-abortion activists released videos they said showed Planned Parenthood personnel negotiating the sale of fetal organs. Officials from the Ohio Department of Health were not immediately available for comment.
According to DeWine’s office, the three Planned Parenthood offices that perform abortions in the state contract with Stericycle, a medical and pharmaceutical waste management company, and Accu Medical Waste, a medical waste management disposal company.
Kight said that the new allegations are trying to bury the fact that the investigation found no evidence to support the original allegation that Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue.
