Elba said in a statement that he was “floored” and “humbled” by the recognition.
Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton – both of whom have Oscar campaigns for a Supporting Actor nom for “Spotlight” – were snubbed in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category.
Trumbo, a biopic about a blacklisted 1940s Hollywood screenwriter, led the Screen Actors Guild nominations on Wednesday in a diverse field that hinted at likely Oscar contenders but snubbed two presumed front-runners, Matt Damon’s space adventure The Martian and Jennifer Lawrence’s drama Joy.

Idris Elba stormed the SAG proceedings with three nominations – best actor and for the ensemble cast in Beasts of No Nation, as well as best actor for TV’s Luther. The Golden Globe nominations come out Thursday.
While Straight Outta Compton was a box office and critical hit, its award season prospects were unknown.
The Screen Actors Guild have released the nominees for their 2015 awards, which are usually seen as holding important clues for the Oscars.
The best actress nominees were Cate Blanchett for the lesbian drama “Carol”, Brie Larson for psychological thriller “Room”, Saoirse Ronan for Irish immigrant tale “Brooklyn” and Sarah Silverman for “I Smile Back”.
Other notable nominations among the TV categories include Nicole Kidman, who will compete for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for her divisive TV movie Grace of Monaco.
In the supporting female competition, Mirren is joined by Rooney Mara (Carol), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) and Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs). “Spotlight”, which tells the story of the Boston Globe’s reporting on the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal, made the cut in this category, as did the movie “Beasts”.
In television categories, “Game of Thrones”, “Homeland” and “House of Cards” each earned three nominations of the SAG Awards, one of the major awards events in Hollywood since 1995.
For the upcoming 2016 SAG Awards, to be held on January 30, the whole cast of Game of Thrones is in the running for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series”.
Leonardo DiCaprio got a best actor nod for his gritty performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “The Revenant“.
Then more than 100,000 active members of SAG-AFTRA will vote for the final award victor.
