Jose Aldo Probably Not Getting Rematch With Conor McGregor Any Time Soon
Conor McGregor made waves, as he’s been prone to do last night, scoring a massive 13-second victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
Just 13 seconds had gone by when McGregor connected with a spectacular left hook punch that dropped Aldo to the canvas, completely knocked out.
It marked Aldo’s first loss in 10 years and extended McGregor’s win streak to 15 fights.
Saturday’s gate was US$10.1 million with UFC officials predicting one of the promotion’s biggest, if not the biggest, pay-per-view audience.
According to Sports Illustrated, McGregor’s epic KO of Aldo is the fastest knockout in the history of title fights in the UFC.
Indeed, McGregor reigns atop the featherweight division and the sport after a remarkable 2015.
He said Aldo was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and now he has taken that title along with the belt.
White also stated that, should he decide to move up a division, he would get an immediate title shot: “the victor of that [lightweight title bout between Rafael Dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone], if Conor McGregor is moving to 155, gets Conor McGregor”.
Two of the most controversial fighters in the UFC will be gracing the cover of the upcoming game “UFC 2”.
Here’s the problem: If Ronda Rousey is getting a rematch with Holly Holm (which Rousey wants to happen at UFC 200), Aldo easily deserves one against McGregor.
Boom, he’s back. We’ll see what Conor decides to do, if he decides to make the weight, not make the weight, whatever.
His trash talking outraged many fans, who said he hadn’t fought anyone and didn’t like his many boasts. I still feel, at the end of the day, precision beats power, timing beats speed.
Nobody could’ve expected that he’d down Jose Aldo in 13 seconds, except of course for the man himself.
McGregor, who trains at SBG Ireland (which stands for Straight Blast Gym) under longtime coach John Kavanagh, initially got into martial arts for self-defence. “I said I would do it, and I’ll do it”. Neither fighter held the championships concurrently, however, and that is the goal that McGregor hopes to reach. “I will be back”. “The true greats will always overcome adversity”, McGregor wrote. UFC president Dana White did not attend the post-fight event.
McGregor relished where he is, asking where the voices who called him a clown and joker are now and proud of how he paid back his countrymen’s support.
McGregor is likely to make his decision based on money.
