Vandals Attack Facebook Building In Germany
Facebook’s offices in Germany have been attacked by vandals who scrawled a wall of the buliding with “Facebook Dislike” in red spray paint.
A group of 15-20 people wearing black clothes and hoods vandalised the company’s offices in Hamburg, by smashing glass, throwing paint and spraying “Facebook dislike” on a wall, police in the northern German city said on Sunday, as reported by Reuters. The motive for the attack and the financial cost of the property damage were not yet known.
Facebook’s European head is under investigation in Germany over the alleged failure on the part of the USA firm to remove racist hate speech.
“Facebook Germany GmbH therefore promotes the dissemination of inflammatory, criminal content through actions in Germany that start in the German business headquarters in Hamburg”, the complaint argues.
The investigation was announced last month following growing concerns in Germany over the rise of xenophobic comments in German on Facebook as the country struggles to deal with the influx of refugees.
Last month, the spokesperson of Facebook refused to comment on this investigation and further added that the allegations seem to lack merit, and no law of German has been violated by Facebook or any of the employees.
Prosecutors in Hamburg are investigating Martin Ott, the social network giant’s managing director for central, eastern, and northern Europe.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported to the news agencies, social networks, or other sources.
With that said, the company holds a partnership with FSM, a group that voluntarily monitors multimedia service providers.
