Navy beats Army — again (but it was close)
Navy has won the last 13 games and Army is looking to win this game for the first time since 2001 when they played ta Veterans Stadium.
The game kicks off at 3 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. In the end, Navy and the Midshipmen sang second, sending Army home for another long, dark bus ride to West Point. He is the first quarterback over the 116-game series to go 4-0.
Carter, making just his second career start, completed 9 of 15 passes for 208 yards and one TD.
The Black Knights led for a majority of the game on Saturday until Keenan Reynolds hit Jamir Tillman on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 5:51 to play. “I thought they played a heck of a football game”. You’re talking about two triple-option teams going head-to-head and really smacking each other in the mouth.
But while Army led 17-14 at halftime, it was held scoreless in the second half.
Get ready for the big rivalry game today between Army and Navy.
Army had a lead. Carter delivered a 35-yard strike to Tyler Campbell to get the ball into Navy territory. The next play call will likely leave Army Cadets and alumni wondering “what if?” until next year’s Army-Navy Game. Since then, Army has played in just one bowl game, while Navy is set to play in its 12, with a bid to the Military Bowl this season.
Reynolds had support from not just teammates but also national pundits who questioned why major college football’s all-time rushing touchdowns leader was not invited to the awards presentation; in past years there have been up to six finalists.
Navy sacked Carter three times and in the second half appeared to rattle him.
What the loss means for Army: The part of the losing streak Army will struggle with most is that it’s had several opportunities for wins over the last several years. “To know that those guys are going out to protect us, I think all of us here can sleep better at night knowing that”. His two rushing touchdowns, of 58 yards and 1 yard, gave him a Division I record 85 for his career. The good news is Jeff Monken has the program moving in the right direction and Navy’s Reynolds is out of eligibility after 2015. Carter threw back to receiver DeAndre Bell, who threw a deep pass toward the end zone that was intercepted in double coverage with 2:03 left. The Midshipmen are 55-4 during that same stretch when taking a lead into the fourth quarter.
Niumatalolo improved to 8-0 against the Black Knights (2-10) two days before he is set to visit BYU to talk about the program’s coaching vacancy. “We’ve got to recruit, we’ve got to push forward”.
Now, the uncertainty begins as to whether Niumatalolo will take the job at BYU, where his son Va’a is a sophomore linebacker. “How do you do that?” I love the kids I coach and I love the people I work with.
