Packers run game back on track after 28-7 win over Cowboys
“We just aren’t playing up to our full potential”.
Eddie Lacy ran for 124 yards and a touchdown and fellow running back James Starks added two scores in Green Bay’s 28-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Instead of suggesting plays to Clements, as he had the past four weeks, it was now Clements suggesting plays to McCarthy.
On Monday, the two finally agreed to switch places with Clements overseeing the offense from the coaches’ box and McCarthy calling the plays.
“I don’t have the heart to put us in with those clubs right now, because I don’t want to – we’ve got more work to do than just get Romo healthy”, Jones said, per the team’s official web site. “But professionally, it was what I felt I needed to do”.
It’s hard to argue with the results. Starks also scored a touchdown and reeled off a team-high 30-yard gain on one play.
Green Bay (9-4), coming off last week’s Hail Mary win at Detroit, won its second straight game to take a one-game lead in the NFC North. Lacy and Starks each had more than 100 yards from scrimmage.
(At) Jacksonville 51, Indianapolis 16: Blake Bortles threw for three touchdowns and ran for a score – all in the second half – and the Jaguars ended the Colts’ 16-game winning streak in the AFC South.
The Packers ran 81 total plays with eight different players getting at least one reception.
“It is what it is, man. When they called it incomplete, it was incomplete”, Bryant said.
And just like, the Packers’ offense got rolling again.
McClain made 11 tackles in Dallas’ loss to Green Bay.
“I think Eddie is a back that needs 20+ carries” lineman Josh Sitton said, “and when he can do that, he can really grind on the defense and we can be successful”. But it’s pretty clear you’re starting to see some of the discord and discontent going on inside that building.
Dallas Cowboys’ Travis Frederick, left, and Zack Martin warm up before the tarp is taken off Lambeau Field before an NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Green Bay, Wis. “We didn’t do enough offensively and Matt’s certainly a big part of that”, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said.
“It’s a timing thing”, Bryant said.
With 435 yards and 29 first downs, the Packers got better balance and production out of an offense that still struggled at times with penalties and short-yardage situations. “We haven’t executed very well”.
Even the “fat” comments aren’t insults, they are jokes meant to re-enforce this larger idea that Lacy is an easy-to-root-for, young star whose minor misadventures make him a better person and, well, make us like him more. This was certainly the right decision by McCarthy – and one that he was wise not to wait any longer to make.
Lacy and Starks each had touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.
Playing in wet and soggy conditions, the ability to get the run game established early was paramount to the offense’s success. While the Packers ran the ball effectively, they couldn’t sustain drives because the Cowboys’ secondary kept the Packers’ passing game under wraps.
But the defense and running game came up with big plays in the fourth quarter.
For Rodgers, he was concentrating on getting the ball out quicker and taking advantage of his check downs.
Jordan Johnson had nine assists for the Panthers (8-3), who shot 63 percent, made 10 of 18 3-pointers, and never trailed. “And by him giving me a chance to come out and redeem myself, I think it was just a blessing in disguise”.
Carr threw two touchdown passes and the Raiders (6-7) beat the Broncos for the first time since September 12, 2011, despite being held to minus-12 yards in the first half – the worst performance by a team heading into halftime in almost a quarter-century.
McCarthy turned over the play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tom Clements in the offseason.
When asked about the change, most players inside the locker room said it didn’t matter who was calling plays.
