Trump expands lead over 2016 GOP field
Numerous other polls recently have also shown Trump as reclaiming a healthy lead on top of the GOP field after having been at par with Carson for several weeks.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) takes fourth in Friday’s survey, earning 12 percent among Republican-leaning voters.
Those figures are largely in keeping with a recent online Latin Post poll, which found Trump at 33 percent, Cruz at 16 and Carson and Rubio at 12 and 10 percent, respectively.
Later Thursday, the billionaire mogul spoke at the Republican Jewish Coalitions gathering in Washington, which was attended by most 2016 Republican candidates.
When considering support among only college educated voters, “the race is a close contest between the top four contenders, with Cruz slightly in front at 22%, Carson and Rubio tied at 19% and Trump at 18%”.
The poll also reflects the dominance Trump enjoys over others in the field on issues that voters deem to be of uppermost importance to them.
Voters said that Trump is the most trusted candidate to handle the economy, receiving 48 percent more support than his nearest competitor. In an article with Mint Press News, Republican political consultant Nathan Wurtzel (who is Jewish) pointed out that “there are a lot of folks who are, to be charitable, into white identity politics, and to be uncharitable are outright racists, who are supporting Trump”.
If he carries this message into the general election in OH, we’ll hand this election to Hillary Clinton.
And, CNN notes, the polls come after Trump has balanced between one controversy or another, and amid predictions from both parties that he would not last. About half say such an effort would be harmful to the economy (47%), while about 3 in 10 say it would help (29%).
And speaking before the Republican Jewish Coalition on Thursday, Trump caused a stir when his remarks appeared to play to offensive stereotypes about Jewish people.
Trump is way, way ahead among Republicans in who is best equipped to handle challenges that will face America’s 45th president.
