States expanded gun rights after Sandy Hook school massacre
Since the December 14, 2012 shootings-known to Newtown residents as simply “12/14″-many educators, lawmakers, and parents have focused policy proposals, prayers, and school-level efforts on ensuring that nothing unseats the Sandy Hook shootings as the deadliest K-12 shooting in USA history”. Adam Lanza, 20, fatally shot his mother in the home they shared in Newtown, then went to the school where she once taught. Because I had no experience in politics or activism, my first instinct was to look for an existing organization of women taking on the issue of gun violence in America, but my search turned up empty.
“But a large part of me wishes we weren’t here – that we had gun violence under control”, Mahr said.
Erardi met with some of the families of the 26 victims, which included 20 first-graders and six adults, to determine if they wanted to cancel school, mark the day with a special remembrance or proceed as close to normal as possible.

Doctor H. Wayne Carver II, the Chief Medical Examiner of CT, ascertained that all the murder victims in the school were shot with the Bushmaster.223 assault rifle. On this third anniversary, the crowd was calling for gun-control laws (background checks, closing loopholes). Under that law, guns have to remain concealed but will be allowed into most buildings on public college campuses.
Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy has requested flags in the state to be lowered to half-staff.
This is simply a proactive measure regarding the anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness found in their report that “scant attention was paid to early identification and early intervention, school-linked mental health services or housing and employment, even though such programs are critical in supporting individual well-being and are a long-term, cost effective use of taxpayer dollars”. “And one of the things that we thought we could do is to come together as people of faith and also as people of good will”, said the team’s Jean Markey-Duncan. And what we’ve managed to accomplish in just three years is nothing short of remarkable.
What do you remember about the Sandy Hook mass shooting?
In October, a jury found that Badger Guns, a firearm shop in suburban Milwaukee, broke federal law when it negligently sold a gun that was used to shoot and injure two officers to a “straw buyer”, someone who illegally purchases a weapon for someone else.
