Chelsea didn’t deserve to lose, says Mourinho
“I was concerned before and I’m concerned now”.
Jose Mourinho defended Nemanja Matic after the Chelsea midfielder was unable to take a crucial chance to score in the 1-0 defeat at home against Bournemouth. That is not the problem.
After the worse start to the campaign, the Portuguese boss called for the fans’ support and hinted that Chelsea would finish in the top four, qualifying for the next seasons’ Champions League.
Mourinho did then address his under-performing players, adding: “If our players are not able to give the maximum every day that is a problem”.
“If you analyse matches, and especially match after match, you can clearly identify a few players for whom it is hard to be consistent”, he said.
“We’ve never been in the Premier League before, so when you come to the champions and beat them, I think it must rank as the best individual result of the club’s history”.
Was second-half improvement down to Diego Costa?
It was an improved performance in the second 45 minutes from the Blues but not enough to prevent what Mourinho felt was another unfair result.
“We didn’t deserve this result”.
“The referee made an important mistake”, Mourinho said. On Wednesday we have to win to make sure we are first and qualified. Time-out, stopping the game, asking for the medical department to go on, to have a drink like a minute out in basketball.
The defending champions were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge with Glenn Murray’s late goal securing victory for the Cherries.
“I just try to play my game, help the team like every player wants to do”, he said. This is more about players doing better than the club going to the market.
“People must feel responsibilities… the owner and the board they are not responsible for the bad moment”. “We’ve believed we’re on the right path. You look at our recent games and we’ve done really well, performed well in several of them but haven’t got the wins we feel we’ve deserved”, he said.
Now Mourinho has admitted he may now need to target a top six finish in the Premier League this season.
The Blues were on the wrong end of two big decisions as they were denied a penalty and the visitors scoring from an offside position. So the referee made a mistake, and the linesman made another mistake, but that’s football.
