Jose Mourinho Confident Diego Costa Will Stay at Chelsea
In a recent interview, Costa sounded open to the idea of returning to his previous club Atletico Madrid, but Jose Mourinho has rubbished any suggestion of that happening any time soon.
“Felipe Luis was one example”. I was always a fan of the club and you don’t want to see this as a former player.
“But I think I put in a better performance on Wednesday – I wasn’t one of the best in the team, but I felt I did my individual jobs well. I see no problem”.
“Atletico is a great club”.
And only recently, the 27-year-old did not deny the possibility of returning to La Liga, claiming that “life is full of surprises” and he could consider a switch.
When asked if Costa could go on and match Drogba’s legacy at Chelsea, Mourinho replied: “Drogba was here for 10 years”.
Burnton references “despondent on-pitch behaviour” as well as an incident that saw Costa appear to throw his bib at manager Mourinho after discovering he wouldn’t be substituted on against Tottenham Hotspur. “This is the first time Mourinho is confronted with these kind of problems”, the 23-year-old told Goal at the Nike #WinnerStays tournament in Amsterdam.
“I think at the end of the season – were he to continue with this performance – his value is 50 million euro (£36.1m)”.
“At this moment it’s too easy”.
On Monday, the Premier League champions face the Premier League leaders in game week 16 of 2015/16 Premier League season.
“Yes, I speak against myself, but I think it’s true”.
Mourinho pointed to his native Portugal, where 15 of the 18 Primeira Liga managers are locals.
“Last year I said to myself: I have to make everything ideal to be in good shape”.
“This season we are doing so bad for some reason, although not all of them”.
Costa isn’t the only Chelsea player to struggle in recapturing the form of last season’s Premier League triumph, with Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and John Terry all below their usual best.
