Offense’s inability to deliver in clutch costs Bills
The Philadelphia Eagles celebrate after safety Ed Reynolds (30) intercepts the ball to end the Buffalo Bills last possession of the game at Lincoln Financial Field. The sports journalist and television host did not have a problem with McCoy hugging Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie before the game, but found McCoy’s decision to kiss the Eagles logo at midfield a bit odd since he plays for another franchise now. He didn’t necessarily handle the defeat well, storming off the field and throwing his helmet against the wall on his way into the locker room. Fletcher Cox did the same thing, and McCoy pushed him in the chest.
The Eagles improved to 6-7 with their second straight win and with three games left, including two at home, they are tied for first place in the sorry NFC East. With season ending wins over the Redskins and Giants, the Eagles will win the division and make the playoffs. The Bills (6-7) can be eliminated – and extend the NFL’s longest active playoff drought to 16 seasons – on Sunday, when they travel to play Washington (6-7). Then Bradford threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor.
The first quarter didn’t start the way McCoy and the Bills had hoped. A huge first half has forced Taylor into some uncomfortable throws down the field that nearly resulted in interceptions or just vastly overthrown.for a Quarterback who has only thrown 4 picks all year, Cox is doing a great job in making him look out of his comfort zone. But Kelly’s long-term plans include Bradford. It was an emotional game for the current Buffalo Bill as he heard a mixed reaction from fans. Many wore No. 25 jerseys in Bills and Eagles colors. The Eagles turned the second-half kickoff into a 41-yard Sturgis field goal and a 10-point lead.
The Eagles put it all aside and had an efficient if unspectacular afternoon, while Buffalo gave away the game with penalties.
BILLS 0, EAGLES 0: Bills get ball first.
The pass was a deep throw to tight end Brent Celek which represented a questionable decision by Bradford, and poor execution. That being said, Kelly’s reluctance to retaliate this week never stopped McCoy’s ego from turning their first game against one another into the title bout at Summerslam.
Of course, the Bills don’t have much choice because backup Kraig Urbik is certainly no better.
“The penalties definitely hurt us”, Ryan said. “I think it is more how we lost: in an undisciplined way with a lot of penalties”.
McCoy averaged a respectable 3.7 yards on 20 carries Sunday, including a 24-yard run, but he did not score a touchdown.
BIG-PLAY SAM: Watkins caught a 47-yard TD down the right side in the first quarter. A few times big plays were called back because of a hold or early movement by the offensive line, including a hold by Richie Incognito during a critical drive to try and tie or win the game. “But I think when we can cover when he’s punting that well, it’s really going to help us here”. Following consecutive holding penalties, the Eagles faced second-and-26 when Bradford hit Agholor over the middle for the rookie first-round pick’s first TD catch and a 14-7 lead. That play put the Eagles in position for Sturgis’ go-ahead field goal.
