Premiere of The Force Awakens takes over Hollywood
Star Wars fans in waiting for the release of the new Star Wars movie.
Disney screened the seventh episode in the franchise at three Hollywood cinemas on Monday night to around 5,000 guests.
Hollywood Boulevard was closed for four blocks, with much of the street covered in a extended tent to provide cover for stars heading into one of the biggest premieres in recent memory – with the film being screened in three separate theaters: the Dolby, Chinese and El Capitan.
The campers have been staked out in front of the Chinese Theatre at Orange Drive and Hollywood Boulevard for days and their numbers have grown to 25, Ward said.
“Star Wars” has become a merchandising juggernaut, fueled by a big marketing investment by Walt Disney Co., which purchased George Lucas’ Lucasfilm and the rights to “Star Wars” in 2012 for $4 billion.
Much to the delight of legions of followers, the beloved veterans return within the new installment – which picks up 30 years after the occasions of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi”. The premiere featured a red carpet lined by Stormtrooper costumes and other memorabilia.
While most stars opted for chic red carpet attire, Joseph Gordon-Levitt showed up dressed as Jedi master Yoda and comedian Rainn Wilson dressed as a Jedi.
The women portray the evil Captain Phasma and Rey, two new characters who will be expected to carry the Star Wars film franchise as it is introduced to a new generation.
Harrison Ford says he’s more excited for this film than when he debuted as Han Solo in 1977 because back then, he says he couldn’t have imagined the success “Star Wars” would go on to have.
‘Well, in the ’70s nobody knew what to anticipate, ‘ Ford said in an interview with Starwars.com.
“None of us would be here tonight without the miraculous creation of one man. George Lucas, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of everyone involved in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ‘ thank you sir”, said J.J. Abrams, the film’s director.
Long after the film’s new stars Ridley, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac, and fellow original co-star Ford turned up, Fisher arrived on the red carpet with her daughter, actress Billie Catherine Lourd.
Obviously early Twitter reviews can’t always be taken seriously, but one person who you would think would be able to listen to is Patton Oswalt, comedian and actor who is known for his love of many things nerd, especially Star Wars. Every Thursday at the Lightsaber Fitness class in Manhattan, Star Wars fans get to sweat it out, in character, practicing moves just like the lightsaber battles from the movies. I understand that I’ll be more recognisable but people in London have their own stuff going on.
“Yeah I’m a pretty big fan”, says Charles Ward, Star Wars Fan. I wanted to see the old cast members because I grew up with these films, she said.
