Browns announce quarterback Johnny Manziel will return to starting lineup
With upheaval on the horizon, players, coaches and executives are uneasy. “That is what losing does to you”. This comes after Austin Davis was given the start and the Browns were destroyed by the Cincinnati Bengals, 37-3. “John-ny, John-ny” chants rang out at half-empty FirstEnergy Stadium in the second half Sunday.
If Pettine and the coaches are serious about turning things around, they better get moving as there are only four games left in the season.
“When you have the record that we have, if there’s not tension in the building, there’s a problem”.
“I know there’s reports out there that that there’s been a decision”. Sometimes you fall into the trap of ‘Let’s just make change.
The Bengals came to Cleveland and thrashed the Browns, blowing through their struggling northern OH neighbors with efficiency and ease. “We have been able to do that since I’ve been here and we need to keep that going”.
With McCown done for the season, and this team nowhere near contending, the time is now for the Browns to evaluate what they have in order to decide whether to move on from Manziel and take a new franchise quarterback in the coming draft.
Pettine said Monday that he hasn’t decided whether to stick with Austin Davis for this week’s game against San Francisco or go back to Johnny Manziel, who was recently benched two games for off-field issues.
Davis went 25-of-38 for 230 yards with no touchdowns and an interception against the Bengals.
Pettine will meet with his offensive staff before making another switch. As Tom Reed shows us on Twitter, Browns fans are fiscally responsible.
Manziel started the season as the Browns’ No. 2 quarterback but got three starts this year with veteran Josh McCown battling injuries. This dropped Manziel (no one calls him Johnny Football anymore – third-string quarterbacks don’t deserve nicknames, which is why it’s Robert Griffin III, thank you very much) to the bottom of the depth chart.
Manziel was named the starter during the Browns’ bye week, but got into trouble when he made a decision to go out and party.
He’ll likely have the final four games to make a statement about his future with the Browns. “We have to make sure that we support our quarterback”. Green has been relatively quiet this season as he’s putting up really good numbers just nothing spectacular so, it was nice to see Green step up when the opportunity was given.
The development has to mean that someone walked over from the executive office into the coaching wing and said, “We’d like to see our first-round pick, please and thank you”, right?
